: I could see Damas as being either of these things
: A mercenary captain who has proved himself so well that
: he is an 'honorary' member of the muirthemne army.
: They've asked, they've BEGGED him to join the Herons
: but, he refuses.

I doubt they would *beg* anybody to join the Herons. The Heron life is old of servitude and humility... I mean look at all the penance the Journeymen went through just for not being home when the Empire fell! That's something that one must go into voluntarily, and there's a big competition to see that only the chosen few get into those ranks.

As I see it Damas is just like Connacht - a kick-assed fighter who is allied with the Bruig and thus becomes an honorary high rank in their army. Though I still like the idea of a general Glaiveman unit, just because I love glaives.

: They never say he's a shade, I (also) beleive that
: mazzarin died a long time ago. He put himself in a
: crypt (that hte watcher is just bearly starting to
: take notice of) and set himself up so that if somone
: pure of heart came he would be able to 'wake up'
: besides, shades arent all the same (out of game) i'd
: suppose.... Shades just look a LOT like Avatara, even
: though as far as we know they are all different
: looking. Shades just look like old dead rotting
: avatara. Would we have a problem if he was a normal
: avatara even though we may perceive him as looking
: different? I dont think so...

: besides hes not a shade, no big giant shadow, he's just
: an old dead man who 'woke up'

That's a good point. Shades in-game all wear the traditional Avatara robes - and we see a dead guy in such robes and we assume it must be a Shade. Doesn't neccesarily mean he is.

However - Mazzarin died at the hands of the Watcher. In TFL, we see Mazzarin as a shade in The Watcher's army. So it makes the most sense that if Mazzarin was preserved in some kind of unlife, that the Watcher turned him into a Shade and kept him around in his army for... a thousand years or so... while he was buried in a mountain.... no.

That's a problem there. Maybe Mazzarin wasn't shadified immediately, and only got turned into one when Balor freed the Watcher a thousand years later.

: But it clearly says that Watcher was imprisoned and
: defeated by Mydred until Balor freed him in TFL.

No, actually, it says he was imprisoned by Connacht in TFL. The only inclination that he was imprisoned by the Deciever is that GURPS says he has the Confinement Dream, and of course their whole rivalry thing but that could have any origin...

: The
: last 'evil' age was the Wolf age

Actually the Wind Age was the last evil age. Connacht ended it and ushered in the Wolf Age, named after him (Connacht the Wolf), which ended a thousand years later as the Sword Age began.
