: Firstly, a question: if the Mayan calander was divided
: into 20-day months, and each symbol represented a
: particular day, then what do the numbers represent?
: The iteration of that day? So, the first day of the
: second month would be Two Crocodile? (Also, 365 isn't
: evenly divisible by 20; what do they do with the
: remaining 5 days?).
Actually, most calandars didn't use 365 day calandars, many used instead 360 days. 360 is a much nicer number than 365, 365 = 73*5 (both prime numbers) but 360=5 * 2^3 * 3^2 (many more multiples to get 360). Also, 5 days per year wouldn't make a whole lot of difference in a climate such as where the Mayans lived.
