: Here is a repost of some info I had before, its the
: symbolism from each day of the Mayan calender, using
: this info you can probably peace together most J-man
: names as they are identical.
Hrm... I'm noticing some interesting things here.
Firstly, a question: if the Mayan calander was divided into 20-day months, and each symbol represented a particular day, then what do the numbers represent? The iteration of that day? So, the first day of the second month would be Two Crocodile? (Also, 365 isn't evenly divisible by 20; what do they do with the remaining 5 days?).
Now, Heron names are their initiation dates according to the Cath Bruig calender (which apparently is the Mayan calender). But then, how can there be two days in one date? As in, Five Motion Bloody Jaguar? (and what does the bloody part mean? Or is the symbol "Bloody Jaguar", not just "Jaguar"?)
And my third notice is that the two symbols in Heron names seem to be often related. For example, Five Motion Bloody Jaguar. Motion (or Quake) is when one "shakes off the ash" from the material world; and Jaguar is being "washed entirely clean". Both have connotations of removing things from one's body. For another example, Nine Skull Crocodile; Skull representing death, and Crocodile representing birth.
Here's my theory as to #2 above: since six Herons are initiated at each tournament, they would each have the same name, right? Well, that's what the second symbol is for; the date of some other important event, like their birth. So, if I was born an Eagle and initiated on the 3rd Jaguar, I would be Three Jaguar Soaring Eagle, or some such.
One last thing: the Herons seem to have many Egyptian influences as well, such as the "white flower" symbol (the lotus, an Egyption symbol of immortality), and the Heron title itself (the heron was the phoenix in Egyptian mythology, being reborn from it's own ashes).
