Not entirely true. Chile actually got a democratically elected Marxist government under the Allende regime.

In the end, they annoyed enough influential people enough that it triggered a bloody military coup plunging Chile into dictatorship for 14 years.

Even so, whatever Isabel Allende may claim to the contrary, I sincerely doubt that all the problems her cousin's rule experienced were caused by rightist sabotage.
