*shrugs* I disagree, but we might just be disagreeing on if the word is the right one.
I think we were just using the word radical to mean different things. You were appeared to be using the term in reference to extreme or reactionary political views. I was using the term in reference to extreme or untraditional actions.
Did I somehow suggest that being a radical was a bad thing?
Not at all. I was simply rattling off my own thoughts. It was not meant as a correction or contradiction.
How would you judge his actions as favorable at all, without making assumptions that may be dubious...about the consquences?
As I said, I don't need to judge his actions, as history has already judged him. Certainly his actions were a gamble that may have yielded disastrous consequences, and had the dice come up differently, we might think of Lincoln differently. But they didn't. And in Lincoln's defense, he didn't start the war.
He's making the UN look weak, making the US look even more like an interfering bully (Which may be unreasonable, but something being unreasonable alone won't stop everyone from thinking it.), bloating the national debt, etc...
I agree.
