In Response To: Re: Bush and his politics (Phil)
: Hurst.
: I'm well aware. I was simply comparing the theory that
: Hurst was largely responsible for turning our
: involvement in Cuba into a "war" with the
: only half-jesting concept that Murdoch, News Corp.,
: and Fox News are guilty of the same manipulation.
: Show me a goverment that was Socialist in a country Marx
: actually believed would have Socialism, rather than
: these peasant or capitalist exploited countries
: (Russia, China, Cuba, Vietnam, Korea...) And then I'll
: admit Socialism doesn't work.
: I'd love to, but sadly I can't. And that's really the
: point. No purely Marxist state has ever existed
: because it's impossible to implement and perpetuate.
: You claim that Russia and China failed because they
: were based on nations "exploited" by
: capitalism. I say, show me a nation that hasn't been.
: Unfortunately we're not living in a vacuum and we
: can't simply fabricate an experimental Marxist utopia
: and watch it succeed or fail. It either works under
: the conditions we have, or it doesn't. And pure
: socialism doesn't.
Technically, pure -nothing-, of -any- kind, works. Shall we proced with the unrefined cynicism at full pace?
: Now, don't get me wrong, there are some great ideas
: attached to that socialist dream, and generally I'm
: for heavy federal socialization. But socialism can't
: stand on it's own, and needs a stable, tried and
: tested model (Keynesian Economic Capitalism for
: example) to attach itself to. It's worked so far, in
: America, Western Europe, Japan, and most of the
: world's other industrialized nations. I say, if it
: ain't broke, don't fix it.
: -Phil.
Problem is, what do we define as "broke"?
When is something fouled up enough to need to be fixed?
I don't think Socialism has ever been (for whatever reason) strong enough in any area where it would actually be capable of working.
Thus, saying it doesn't work is sort of like saying a house of cards won't stand.
This was not meant as a metaphor.
