: The point of that was not to spark fires...
: I'm simply stating my personal opinion.
Indeed, and the reason for posting your opinion was to have others read it; and the reason for others reading your opinion was to gain the information and to respond to it. It all fits.
: Anyone who's been on here for a decent time knows I'm
: tactless, cynical, and blunt, about certain things.
Ah, cynicism... the plague of our youth...
: I did not intend to make a riot over Christanity or any
: other religion, but unless someone's going to prove
: that I'm wrong, I do not have any wish to withdraw
: that statement.
Well, let's quote it:
: "And so humanity destroyed God, and raised up the
: Devil in His place, and never noticed the
: difference...save those who realized that Lucifer was
: more honest than Jehovah."
: Seraph, making a far too cynical and blunt comment on
: Christanity.
So, you imply that Christians have put Satan in God's place. Peachy. For a man who doesn't believe in divinity, you sure do make a lot of definite statements about things you don't even want to believe in.
"More honest"? What the heck. You don't even seem to know what you're talking about, friend.
: (I am not saying all Christains are evil. Generally
: speaking, Christainity is hypocritical, over the long
: haul of history, to the best of my knowledge.)
So is Communism and Socialism, over the long haul of history. I don't think Christianity has been more than other religions or practices.
: Also, it was a point about God, more than his followers.
Oh, that makes it soo much better...
: In real life, it genuinely seems that God doesn't care
: what happens to people, and makes no effort to do
: anything that would benefit them.
What are you, a fool? Do you even know what "God" means?
In its truest sense, God is an abstract concept, which most certainly exists, just as circles exist even though there are no such perfect forms in our world, just as art is a concept which exists and we represent, just as feelings, emotions, thoughts are all no more than abstract concepts that have no more reality than God Himself. God is simply the sum of all the goodness in the universe. If you believe in goodness, you believe in God; "God" is just giving goodness a name. You do believe in goodness, right? You seem to believe in evil.
Then again, you might be a Sophist, a nihilist who believes in nothing at all. In that case, you have my pity, for it is then you who has the hipocracy.
As for divine intervention, that's another element entirely. Technically, God already has intervened, at the beginning of time when things were set in motion. If you want to believe in miracles, go right ahead; it's the same if God's presence isn't felt more than in the world around us as it is.
But, this topic is lengthy and complex. Simply, don't feel God has betrayed you; all that matters is that you are a good person. All the rest is moot.
: It also seems to be the case that most people don't
: -care- about other people.
*Grins.* Are you one of them?
: Anyone who is truly offended, I appolgize for sounding
: rude, but I do not think that is a statement that is
: entirely untrue.
Heh, how cautiously phrased...
: In brief, I'm tactless and caustic. I made such a
: statement about a religion that in all truth -has-
: been hypocritical to a disgusting degree. (Presumably
: not totally, certainly not uniquely, but
: unfortunately, it has been.)
Keep in mind not to confuse organized religion with sincere belief...
: Now, before this post itself devolves into another
: possibly provoking of hostility statement...I'm sorry
: if I offended anyone without cause. I am not sorry for
: speaking my mind, though.
You shouldn't apologize at all.
