In Response To: Re: Myth II plot and characters (Seraph)

: Its an interesting read, if memory serves (Speaking
: before checking if its there).

: Quoting you earlier, to respond...
: I was thinking about the plot problems of myth II,
: namingly it doesn't have the same tension of myth I
: and isn't as exiting, but when i thought about if the
: Myth II story were expanded, book, film etc. then it
: would have one thing up on Myth I, characters.

: Well, what would we expand to increase the characters's
: depth? Your fan-fic is good, but what else can we
: write in that light?

: I think Myth II's just not as as thrilling as Myth I,
: never will be, personally.

: In Myth TFL, you've been fighting against the armies of
: the Dark for thirty years and the only thing that's
: happened consistantly is that the cities of West
: become little more than ash and ruin.

: In Myth 2, we know we can beat Soulblighter, for have we
: not won under worse conditions?

: That's the thing, at the end...
: Myth TFL...You don't have any more faith (presumably)
: than the real characters that you can win.

: Myth 2...Alric's such a legend that even the
: "nightmares made flesh" seem as nothing
: against him.

: Its just not as epic to watch Alric tear through the
: Myrkridia with Balmung as it is to watch your berserks
: hack Balor to piecies as Alric shouts "KILL HIM!
: KILL HIM!!!" while using every bit of power he
: can to just hold Balor motionless.

: Both are good games, but Myth 2 just doesn't have the
: fear factor Myth TFL does.

Yes indeed.

When you think about the idea of Alric slicing through a few dozen Myrks Solo, it is in some respects a reflection of his character, that these nightmares in flesh cannot fight against a man fighting for the survival of his people, someone who needs to redeem themselves, mirroring the way Connacht fought in a way.

One way to make the ending a bit more exciting would be to add a time factor. Alric is defeating SB's small army around the Cloudspine, but SB has recalled his entire, massive army from all over the Province, and their marching slowly toward Tharsis, and basically Alric has to defeat SB before that enourmous army arrives and crushes them. Just as this massive army pushes the Bruig army over the Ire river as Alric and SB do battle within Tharsis, They all collapse as Soulblighter falls into the lava and perishes.
