I don't know whether it's good or bad - I say we need more time; there's plenty of examples of "safe" prducts which have been used and later turned out to be very, very dangerous. Including substances approved by USA, EU etc, so until soemthing's been tested over time, widely,...I'm not gonna trust it.

It's a common misconception that "genetically modified" means "gene spliced." This is simply not the case. For almost all foods on the market to day it refers to modern specialized crossbreeding techniques, a principle that has been tested and in practical use for centuries. And, though I can't say how it works in the U.K., getting FDA approval is not small feat. It usually requires years of federal testing and study. In addition, I have yet to hear about a single human death or illness related to genetically modified rice. In fact, average lifespan in America and Europe (by far the largest consumers of genetically modified foods) are longer than they've ever been.

It is terribly immoral to tell a starving people that their food is poisoned, simply because you don't trust the government. Avoiding genetically modified foods in favor of "all natural" foods might be a trendy fad for us, but for the worlds starving millions it's the difference between life and death.
