: Not really. Sadists -enjoy- inflicting pain. I would say
: that can be -generally- considered a bad thing.
: That's the thing that bothers me about people who like
: being very open-minded on this...Some things, by being
: what they -are-, may be bad, period.
Anyone ever see Little Shop of Horrors, with Rick Moranis? It's a hilarious movie, and in it there's this character played by Steven Martin, a dentist who is incredibly sadistic. He loves scaring and hurting and torturing his patients. Then one day, he meets a character played by Bill Murray, a masochist who goes around to dentists just to be hurt by them and enjoy the agony. At first, this willingness to be in pain is pleasant to the sadistic dentist. However, after a while of trying everything he can, the masochist keeps begging for more pain, and clearly enjoys the torment very much.
This frustrates and infuriates the sadistic dentist. He is a true sadist, wanting not to inflict injury so much as desiring to elicit pain and displeasure. The masochist is having the time of his life, of course, but the dentist gets so angry at him that he just throws him out.
Therefore, some S&M relationships may not be true ones and less compatable than you think..
