In Response To: So, we need a topic...Lets try this? (Seraph)

: Does any nation, good or bad, have the right to decide
: that since another nation is "Evil" (In
: quotes, because it is usually considered an opinion as
: to what is good and what is evil.) and therefore, it
: has the right to invade the nation, overthrow its
: goverment, and replace it with something else, all
: without the request of the people or the approval of
: the international community? (I admit there are
: countries that may support a country who takes such
: action, but there are also countries that may oppose
: such action.)

: Lets try and keep this abstract. Anyone who cares to scan
: my old posts on anything political knows what I think
: of the real situation, or can make a damn good
: educated guess.
: I'd rather not offend anyone, if I can avoid it...I don't
: need to beat anyone over the head with my viewpoint to
: make it clear.

: Now, for purposes of this arguement, war itself is
: presumably considered acceptable under these
: conditions, and the war is conducted legally (I.e.,
: with the approval of those who have the power to
: declare war, which offically do so, and the support of
: the people.)
: I'm simply stating this so we don't digress too early on
: into the morality of war itself.

Okay, I don't have time for as long a response as I'd like, but...

To call someone else 'evil' is essentially an oblique way of saying 'I am morally superior to you and am therefore entitled to do anything I like to you, even if in so doing I may exceed whatever actions caused you to be labelled as evil in the first place, because it's okay when I do it, because I'm good, you're evil and you deserve it.' Which is why it's so stupid to start labelling people as evil. Look at 'Columbo' as an example. The bad guys might be greedy, or ruthless, or desperate, or even just easily manipulated, but never evil, because the moment you apply that adjective to someone, they cease to be a person and become merely a cardboard cut-out. And if it's so hard to say that a person is evil, can you possibly use that adjective of an entire nation?
