In Response To: Re: Bahl'al, The Watcher, Unlife, etc (Loki)
: Excellent quote, however, you really are comparing apples
: and oranges here, like thrall and soulless.
: It is now established that Soulblighter himself can and
: has raised ghasts, soulless and wights, but, when it
: comes down to it, each of the three (thrall, ghast,
: soulless), are related to one another in only one
: manner: the fact that they are undead.
: They're different in the same respect gear wheels are
: different from grommets and bearings. They're all
: round, but they all serve different purposes. Just
: because you can make one type of weapon doesn't
: necessarily mean that you can then make all variety of
: weapons within the same branch.
: Also, someone is still arming and equipping Thrall with
: the same materials they've always had. Ghasts and
: wights need only death fever, soulless poison and
: throwing spears.
The secret is the raising of the dead, not the creation of ghasts. If Soulblighter can raise the dead, he can raise thrall who are merely dead reanimated corpses. I would say it's harder to creat ghasts, wights, and soulless than thrall since they have no special feature or ability that might require some extra sorcery.
: The problem is that it must be directly or even
: indirectly suggested (as opposed to implied by
: circumstantial evidence) that individuals other than
: Bahl'al can raise thrall, not the other way around.
: Trying to prove that no one else had the dream of unlife
: is impossible- literally trying to prove a negative,
: which cannot be done.
: In order to cast some doubt on my independence
: hypothesis, it must be proven that others definitely
: had the capacity to raise thrall, and so far, I do not
: believe that that can be done.
The baron and other human minions were creating Soublighter's army. His army did not consist soloely of soulless and pus filled corpses. The greatest portion of it was made of thrall. This must be because they are the easiest to create. If the creation of ghasts can be taught to humans, why isn't every thrall in Myth 2 a ghast? They are far more effective melee troops.
: Even if it were, the fact would still remain that the
: only real evidence (Eidos' site isn't and cannot be
: considered an official text) that Bahl'al and the
: Watcher were one in the same are the texts about Tyr,
: which would make no sense at all, because they would
: have to be contemporary, and therefore the writers are
: using two names for one individual at the very same
: time, something that's done for no one else, and just
: doesn't fit the style of the writing as we've seen it.
That's not true. Alternate names for important figures have been used throughout history. From Homer's Iliad to current warfare, generals have been given epithets and nicknames that are freely interchangeable in reported record. Perhaps less so these days due to the formalities of journalism but still, The Watcher could be Bah'lal's pseudonym just as Achilles was often referred to as the Swift-Footed Shepherd of the People or the Godlike Leader of Men.
