In Response To: Re: Bahl'al and the Watcher (controversial) (Ghôlsbane)

: I'm afraid you've missed the point. I was implying that
: it was the Leveller who granted the power, through
: Balor.

Again, incorrect- Balor has nothing to do with Thrall except the fact that his armies are composed of them.

Balor can grant nothing because he isn't even an Avatara, firstly. Second, again, Thrall were around and abound long before even Connacht was, likely before the beginning of the Wind Age, maybe even before that, back in Reason or even Axe, which would point to why Thrall are armed in the manner they are.

Furthermore, there is nothing in evidence to indicate that powers can be taught or learned, nor that the Leveler himself does anything remotely like that. All Balor did that was even close to that was tell Soulblighter a secret, something that I have done myself on several occasions.

: Now surely if this were the case, Bahl'al could not have
: been the first to use this power. Not so. As an
: ancient evil, Bah'lal could well have stood by the
: original Leveller and received the power first to use
: himself. After all, raising the dead would be a task
: delegated by a deity, not performed himself.

Again, he went to Si'anwon, the sunken Trow city, to seek the Dream of Unlife, becoming the father of the thrall. No one gave it to him.

The leveler is no deity- that title belongs to Nyx and Wyrd. All the leveler does is perpetuate chaos and destruction; there is nothing to indicate that he teaches or causes power in others, or is in any way omnipresent or omnipotent, just a leader of chaos and death. The concentrated, fermented soul of a plague, if you will.

: As you state yourself, this only holds true if you take
: him to be the only one who can produce them. Evidence
: shows he is not.

I would LOVE to see some facts in evidence to support this claim.

: This is pure speculation, correct? There is little
: supporting evidence for this. And the idea of having
: to bring all corpses to Si'anwon for any thrall to be
: created is ludicrous. What's more, using Trow iron to
: arm the thrall? You must be joking. Thrall would be
: unable to weild Trow weapons, the axes you see them
: using are far too small to be of the Trow variety and
: the idea of an underwater forge manned solely by
: Bah'lal is somewhat implausible. And why choose Avon's
: Grove to choose which corpses to use? It's nowhere
: near water.

Like I said, it was my opinion, and yes, is therefore total speculation, but it DOES fit the facts present quite well.

Firstly, you CAN smelt iron weapons into other forms. You'd have to be pretty deranged to think that thrall are using remaindered Trow weapons.

Phelot invaded Avon's grove, as the text says, and chose which would die and which would have unlife. I mentioned it as a preemptive counterpoint to anyone raising the idea of Avon's Grove and Phelot raising thrall on his own.

Please, do your research BEFORE you start an argument.

Bahl'al only has to be the foreman and produce the naked thrall themselves. Stygans and other such things could very well man the forges to produce the weapons and armor. If we take the TFL beta texts into evidence, we have flaming soulless, which could very well be a source of combustionless flame (to operate inside an oxygen-poor environment).

Like I said, though- just a thought.

: This just seems far too fanciful.

What, myth isnt? All the great theories start out with someone saying exactly that, all the way back when the scientific method was invented, from the theory of planetary motion to the theory of natural selection to the aquatic ape human origin hypothesis.

Seems to me that my story there would make a great campaign plugin nonetheless. =)
