In Response To: Re: Mazzarin (Forrest)
: Except for the fact that it's directly stated that he
: died in the Wind Age. "...and his death was the
: most salient victory of the Fallen during the Wind
: Age".
: (Though that brings up a point - the Fallen were around
: in the Wind Age!? Maybe that doesn't mean THE Fallen
: Lords as we know them, but just of the Fallen in
: general - the epilogue says that many Great Heroes
: return later as Fallen Lords, meaning that
: "Fallen Lord" is a general noun in Myth
: talk, not meaning "The six sorceror-generals
: under Balor who lead the armies of the Dark in the
: Great War").
: Anyway, I'd agree with your assumption that it SHOULD
: follow, if not for this: you'd also think most people
: would collectively remember the Great War only 60
: years after it happened, but little Andir doesn't
: believe it, and apparently only bleary-eyed old
: grandparents actually remember it. The Wind Age was
: 500 to 1000 years ago. Is anyone gonna really remember
: that, or take it seriously if they do? I mean, today,
: if some guy disappeared, would people automatically
: assume he was captured and stolen away by devils or
: monsters? I mean, hey, we remember that people
: believed that sort of thing a thousand years ago, so
: why shouldn't we? Because we know better. Likewise,
: the people of Myth think they know better, that there
: are no walking dead except in little kids' scary
: bedtime stories. If only they were right...
Here is a quick tidbit for you... we know that Connacht disappeared at some point and returned as Balor. In that time a new emporer was named to rule the Cath Bruig Empire, that being Ceiscoran. Then I would imagine that Balor came and laid waste to Muirthmne, The Barrier (it was once a fertile land) and Ceiscoran. At this time, the Heron Guard disbanded.
We also know that the Heron Guard were present in Bagrada to help hold the pass before the forces of the Dark were broken. So Ceiscoran's death was fairly recent to the start of TFL. So my guess is that Connacht disappeared while searching for many powerful artifacts, and in this time he became the Leveler. In his absensce a new emporer was named, and with him a new council as well. So Mazzarin would have probably been the most powerful of this council, and when he was slain by the Fallen (Bahl'al's seven waves of thrall) it became a salient victory during the Wind Age.
So Ceiscoran could have very well been Emporer during the Wind Age. He may also have been Connacht's second or third in command, thus earning him the title of emporer. In this way Mazzarin's death may have been very recent and would have likely been just before the fall of Muirthmne and the death of Ceiscoran. In my best guess the Wind Age just ended and Myth TFL takes place within 100 years of the new age.
