: I hate to say it, but this vaguely makes sense. There
: seems to be a clear lack of north-south climate shifts
: on the Mythworld, and that would be explained if the
: world was not a sphere but rather a ring. You've still
: got to explain the seasons though, smart guy. :) Far
: as I know, neither of the two mechanisms suggested on
: the Halo forums for seasons (changing angle of ring
: surface to sun, ring shadowing itself) would produce
: an Earthlike progression, as the Mythworld seems to
: possess.

Ringworlds, unlike Dyson spheres, are inherantly unstable. If they get slightly off center (say due to a meteorite impact on the dark side), they tend to get even more off-center as the sun is drawn more toward the closest point of the ring (though since the sun is more massive, the ring ends up moving instead). Given some proper correctional mechanisms, the ring wouldn't go crashing into the sun, but it would still wobble a little, getting slightly closer and farther from the sun in regular cycles. Those cycles could even by intentionally implemented.

: An H-bomb-sized blast is their equivalent of an airlock?!
: Why not create a second forcefield on the interior
: side of the object to block the air while the outer
: forcefield opens up? Or open a very small hole in the
: forcefield right around the object? Or just not let
: any objects out, if the only alternative is blowing up
: half the continent?

Hardly half the continent, but you have a point that it is a lousy mechanism. Note, however, that the Devoid was not intentionally created as a hole into space; it was blasted into existance by the Callieach in their final stand against the Trow. So the explosive effect could simply be some automated mechanism built by the Myth gods to keep things from passing through any bottomless pits created. Or the head could have just hit the force field and been destroyed, releasing tons of magic power and making the big boom we all saw.

: Okay, if I really had nothing better to do (and a working
: TFL CD) I'd go watch all the movies and figure which
: way we were facing from the angle of the sun, just to
: prove you wrong. But I'm not going to. So you have to
: do it instead, and inform us all of your findings. Ha!

Well, well... Alric's head flew out of the Devoid, and the castle Jari was looking at wasn't built quite that same as the one he infiltrated, the the Five Champions movie replaced a Berserk with a Dwarf; so movies can be wrong! So there, ha!

(In other words: no, I'm a lazy-assed bastard).
