That heppens when threads get long. The child posts keep on indenting and eventually extend an annoyingly long way. This means the rest of the page is stretched out too since there's no fixed page width, only a percentage.
I guess if people stopped posting flames to each other in the Tolkien thread, this problem would be solved temporarily, but there's been a slight drop in the level of maturity recently. Oh well, freedom of speech and all that...
