In one of the manuals, in the glossary or pregame, or prehaps somewhere else I saw something about The Great Devoid being the center of the world, now as it is not peticularily north or south, myth world could not be a sphere as it has no center, it probably looks more like a CD, a disk with a whole in the middle, so that should convince you even if you believe that JAM was truly mad.

As for all the air escaping, remember that the dead are held to the other side by magics no man can ever master? I guess the air and stuff is held in the same way, and remember that the Myth gods take a very active role in this world.
