I'll throw out an idea:(Okay a glueing togather of various points made in this thread).
Trow are weakening, they know it. They know that in the south are the powerful Forest Giants, they know that there numbers are dwindling. They had fought the Myrks, kicked their asses and saw their barbarity. Moagim offers them a deal, you help me kick the Cath Bruig, when I'm finished making undead of everyone I'll take my entire army into forest Heart to kill off the only living creatures that challenge your power. The Trow reluctantly agree, knowing 1) he's Leveller 2) They'd be fighting with the scum Myrkridia.
After the epiphany that effects the whole race after the Oghre extinction they Trow start seeing things from other points of view. However they aid Balor cos he let them live. So finally the Trow say hey, if we fight in a few more wars we're goin' to go the way of the Oghre, Sile'hei Callieach and those other races we killed off. So they decide not to take part in any more wars. In Myth II they probably only sent a few dozen trow to aid the war, the rest stayed away.
So Aucerus Maximus, didn't wan't to talk of the Myrks cos he was ashamed about his alliance with them.
