: if you write better than him, i want to read a book you
: write. even though his writing may not be tolkien, the
: storyline is really what counts in his case.
That may be what counts in his case, but I'm going above mere plot (though I will have that, too.) Theme! Why don't people pay attention to theme these days? The only fantasy author I've read yet that was writing not to make a nice plot, but for good thematic qualities (at least, as his primary goal) has been Tolkien! Jordan doesn't, Brooks doesn't, McCaffrey doesn't, Eddings doesn't, everyone doesn't! sheesh... Bradbury's okay, but he's more science fiction than fantasy, although he does play a little on the other side of the fence.
: Gothmog
I'm working on it, I'm working on it. ;) (my culminating project for high school is writing (perhaps publishing?) a fantasy genre novel. My goal is to become the next fantasy author that is good enough to be counted amongst such authors as Tolkien, Melville, Hawthorne, Twain, Hardy, etc.)
And I never said otherwise (about Chimera). I just always spell Chimaera "Chimaera," because that's the way that it's spelled in mythology, and I've been studying that forever.
