: As for the Tain itself. it seems strange that after the
: barbarians from the south stole the tain, that
: Soulblighter knew where to look for it. So I again
: notice a connection between him and the Spider-cult.
: Since he was alive during the reign of Connacht, he
: would know how to use it and weild it against his
: enemy, but it seems strange that Connacht would not
: seek out such a powerful artifact himself, and instead
: Soulblighter uses it for his own intentions.
Maybe Balor recovered the Tain and gave it to Soulblighter to use. I mean, all it does is imprison people and provide a pathway to the spider-gods, who don't seem to be particularly friendly to the Fallen; Soulblighter could use it against the Light with about as much skill as even Balor could. And Balor probably doesn't want to have much to do with the Tain, since the Myrkridia or their remains are still inside. I realize that his question, "Where did you get that accursed thing, Alric?" does suggest that he doesn't know about the Tain, but maybe he's just asking because he can think of other possible places to dig up or recover a Myrk standard.
: Also, what type of protection would Soulblighter use to
: defend his temple? We know that Soulless were his
: preferred form of reanimation, but in Myth II we also
: see a new creature, the Stygian Knight. So what other
: types of creatures could Soulblighter have created
: before his conquest of the West?
Since these *are* the untamed lands, he wouldn't have much in the way of civilized intruders. So his guards simply have to defend against fairly unintellectual attackers such as roving animals and whatever barbarians survived the Great War. I'd suggest Mauls and Mahir--the one because their lack of intellect wouldn't be such a handicap against such foes, the other because they work so well against individual targets (the temple would probably be penetrated by lone explorers, not by armies) and because they would terrify any passing savages.
