Myth is connected to Tolkien even more than you guys suspect. One more interesting connection, Bah'lal is the greatest necromancer in the world, in LotR (a.k.a. Lord of the Rings) Sauron is called the Necromancer of Dol-Guldur although th undead never appear there (except the Nazgul)
