To be technical, Lucifer was not banished to hell. He was merely banished from heaven, and came crashing to Earth to stir up trouble and try to get God's precious humans damned themselves. He is DOOMED to hell though, after evil is finally defeated, for that is where all sinful souls eventually go.
And for anyone who hasn't been long enough yet to observe, I am completely agnostic and am speaking of this on an entirely literary/mythological level. Thank you.
