Perhaps the Avatara are too disciplined to fall prey to the Leveller's temptations.

I'm assuming that Tierceus (Spelling?), who ushered in the Age of Reason, and who then was corrupted into the next Leveller was a mage (wizard,sorcerer...), but I could be wrong. Otherwise Gholsbane's theory is sound to my sight and judgement.
