I get the impression that, like the Ents, the Forest Giants don't tend to be found unless they want to be found. And they have good reason not to trust the Deceiver. They'd be more likely to watch and wait, only acting if it becomes apparent that he's a threat to the forest.
What mind have been nice would have been if they'd added the sinister creaking of tortured wood and whispering of the wind among the leaves at intervals... :D
