: By all accounts this seems to be true, given that
: Warlocks, Fetch, and the Fallen Lords are known to use
: magic, and we are given strong indication that the
: Trow and the Callieach may have in the past. However,
: in each of these other cases the types of magic used
: by each group or race is rather specific and
: exclusive. This seems to indicate some sort of order
: or standardization. It is for this reason that I would
: call them a school or order of magic. Magic of a
: specific type. I don't really see the avatara as an
: exception. Nor can I find any evidence one way or the
: other to indicate that the avatara would include only
: men from the west, or that the members of any one
: group or race were limited to one order of magic.

Personally, I think the Avatara (and hence the Nine) are Archmages, powerful sorcerers/wizards/mages (I prefer mages for the generic, but that's just my call) that may or may not be specially devoted to the Light and Wyrd, or the One Dream, in and of itself. See below...
Its sort of like a political party, most Democrats are liberals, but it is not required to be a liberal to my [Socialist] standards, same with being an Avatara and being out to find or remake the One Dream.
If this actually sounds reasonable tell me. If not, I'm overposting.

P.S. Any fan fiction of members of the Nine (besides Alric) is most heartily wished for...I have a couple old pieces on Dairmuid (Spelling, I know, is not my strength)who is an Archmage but not nessacerily an Avatara. Read and then tell me what you think. Tell me if you think I was high when I wrote this, if its high quality, whatever...but try to control the urge to be sarcastic certain persons with a name that is spelled D.o.o.m (I don't mind you sarcasticly commenting on my opinions all that much but my work is a different matter)
Sir Postalot (Possible new name I'm going to use)
