In Response To: they can do it ALL NIGHT!! (rhesus)

: IF the krids were created by Moagim: they are serious
: geezers, being trapped in the Tain that whole time.

They died of starvation in the Tain. Don't you remember "The Summoner", where he is picking up their ancient skulls and ressurrecting them one by one?

: Of
: course, we've seen in Myth TFL that time plays weird
: tricks on people trapped in there ("2 days for
: us, a split second for SB...," or something like
: that). Do you think that they invented any games to
: pass the time, maybe Russian roulette to figure out
: which of them they'd eat next?

They sat around eating spiders as much as they could, sometimes being killed by swarms, going berserk when near death, wounding others enough to make them go berserk, and so on, until the last few survivors just up and starved, and got their remains eaten by the spiders.

: Seriously, though, I
: don't think it's possible that there were a finite
: number of krids--IF (and it's a big if, seeing as how
: none of us actually crafted this story) the basic
: requirement for a krid to grow into a giant is that it
: gets old, one would think that all of the krids still
: living were on the verge of doing just that.

Not if they had been dead for a thousand real-world years (which is billions of Tain years). Those who were already giants were ressurected as such; those who weren't, weren't.

: I assume
: that Moagim would have created all of them in
: relatively the same amount of time, which means that
: if they were alive for a millenia or two in the Tain,

Which they weren't.

[blah blah blah]

: Couldn't Moagim dream a couple thousand krids
: behind enemy lines and have them decimate his forces?

Probably not, because the Krid dream would likely work like the Dream of Unlife. For the dream of unlife, you take a corpse, and reanimate it. For the Krid dream, you take a hunk of dirt and animate it. You still have to be in proximity to the dirt, like you have to be in proximity to the corpse. If dreams work over infinite range, like you suggest, why couldn't Moagim just dream all the forces of the light into oblivion?

: Maybe a better question to ask
: is why Connacht didn't just wipe them out when he had
: the chance, rather than imprison them.

Because imprisoning them in the Tain is tantamount to wiping them out, and a hell of a lot easier. Though if I were him I would have gone into the Tain after a few real-world days and blasted the remains of the Myrkridia to dust, but that would ruin Myth II (and the end of Myth 1, since there would be no Myrkridian Standard to use against Balor).

: Not to mention
: the fact that he would have to unleash a spell of
: inconceivable power were he to attempt to con-Tain the
: same number of krids in the Tain as those encountered
: in Myth 2.

The Tain has such power. Remember that, IIRC, ten thousand members of the legion were imprisoned inside the Tain at once. Connacht could walk into the middle of a giant battle, activate the Tain and suck all the Krids into there. Then move on to the next battle, and repeat. Pretty soon, all the Krids would be gone.

: Now I'm going off on a tangent. The point
: is, I don't think Moagim had the power, nor do I
: believe that the facts in the case support the claim
: that he created the krids by an act of sorcery.

On the contrary, I think *all* evidence points to him creating the Krids via sorcery, though not neccesarily from dirt. Like has been suggested, he could have twisted a race of Ghols into the Myrkridia. Or he could have shaped them from mud and given them life, like a golem. But, given the magical nature of the Leveller, I'm fairly certain that magic was in some way involved in their creation.

: Of
: course, maybe he just happened to find a big, ugly
: female ghol and...

: I'll leave that to your imagination.

[shudder]

I'd rather not, thank you.
