I ran a myth session (Using a combonation of GURPS rules but using a d20 system) roleplaying game once. I set it right after the Fallen burn Muirthemne and the rest of the Cath Bruig. the charecters were a small platoon seperated from the Legion by the Fallen army coming in through the cloudspine that had to make their way back to madrigal. it worked quite well, perhaps you could use that time period, most of the West is still intact but their doom is encroaching...
