the summoner was definately not started by balor because balor is of course connacht the hero of the wind age and the destroyer of the myrks, so he would not ressurect his ancient enemies.
as for what he was, he was, as far as i know just a person who may have had some magical abilities "built in" but he was not trained as an avatara, because at the time of his rise, aqnd death he was still fairly young, and less powerful than soulblighter(because if he was stronger, why would he serve him?)
