I'd say those two cities are massive underround and towns dot the plains in front of them.

Children of Wyrd I'd say, possibly created ina cave underground or just started digging into the earth.

Its possible that one could assume that the Dwarven Axemen were Homegaurds that did not leave Myrgard and Stoneheim when they fell but fought to the death.

Most of their number were probably killed when the Ghôls captured their homeland, though I'd say their on a comeback.
