: umm, I have to point something out. The King's (Alric's)
: family fled Covenant 12 years ago (from the first year

: journal entry after Homecoming) for the lines.
Indeed, I simply forgot which city it was, and Madrigal was the one which stuck in my mind. I hope my point remains intact despite my error.
: There's really not many other ways someone could be your
: heir and not be your son without special
: circumstances.
: After all, Mauriac is Prince Regent, not King during
: Alric's adolessense, so its unlucky there could be any
: other peoples around to succed the throne besides the
: king's son.
Exactly. Martel assumed that Caliban was once a king, and then assumed that he died, and then assumed that he was Alric's father. My point was that, even if the first two circumstances were true despite our lack of evidence, it doesn't necessarily follow that Alric was his son to be his heir: those special circumstances could have meant that there was no one left in the royal lineage who could claim the throne besides the young Alric. There are plenty of historical circumstances of someone besides a son receiving a royal inheritance.
Of course, this is entirely speculation, but when one speculation leads to another, things start fracturing and becoming increasingly dependant upon other assumptions.
