: I believe Mauriac was Prince Regent of Madrigal, because
: Alric was too young to rule at the time of the city's
: destruction and/or murder of its ruling family. To my
: knowledge, there is no single king of the entire
: Province.
umm, I have to point something out. The King's (Alric's) family fled Covenant 12 years ago (from the first year of TFL), and Mauriac knows about this. (look up the journal entry after Homecoming) for the lines.
: However,
: A likely course, although your association that Caliban
: is Alric's father is based on the kingship argument,
: and even if Caliban was the king of Madrigal, it
: doesn't mean that Alric had to be his son to be his
: heir.
There's really not many other ways someone could be your heir and not be your son without special circumstances.
After all, Mauriac is Prince Regent, not King during Alric's adolessense, so its unlucky there could be any other peoples around to succed the throne besides the king's son.
