Seneschals? I was under the belief the title was the Mayors of the Palace.
Also, said ancestor guy is sort of Myth related *pulls out Martel* Charles Martel is probably the one you're thinking of, if I'm right.
Also, I'm not sure if Charlemange truly qualifies as a Holy Roman Emperor, other than being made Emperor by the Pope.
