Personally to differentiate from Ents I saw the Forest Giants as People Trees and Ents as Tree People. In other words, The Ents are Trees that walk and talk, whereas the Forest Giants are Giant beings who have wood for flesh and bark for skin, but are human like other wise. There isn't much to support this beside the Manual picture of the FG, where they look humanish. But it sets them apart from Ents.
