In Response To: Damas and the Spider-cult... (Pimpyō)

: Between your post and Forrest's down below it made me
: think of some relation between Damas and the
: Spider-cult. Indeed Connacht truely hated the
: Myrkridia, so the Smiths of Muirthmne forged the Tain.
: Now we know that Soulblighter had no problem with the
: Myrkridia and in fact sought out the Summoner to
: ressurrect them. So this would seem that Soulblighter
: in fact knew of their effectiveness in combat.

I doubt Damas had any connection with the Spider-cult, but it is possible. His favor of the Myrkridia, on the other hand, is suspicious, and I suspect that he may have had some association with Moagim before he joined Connacht.

: Now from the Spider flavor, it says that no trace of the
: Smiths of Muirthmne or their followers could be found,
: does this mean that they fled or were destroyed?

I think they fled into the Tain, arranged for the barbarians to steal it, and then popped out of it in the Untamed Lands a couple Tain-years later.

: And
: what disappeared that is spoken of in the Myrkridia
: flavor?

People. The Smiths had to make sacrafices to their spider-gods, so they would kidnap people. But not all the mysterious disappearances could be traced back to the spider-cults; some were due to Myrkridian ghosts.

: So indeed we see a strong connection between the Tain and
: the Spider-cult. And it is only amplified by the
: Inside the Tain piece within the Tales from Myth TFL
: comic. Now there is also some type of connection
: between the Myrkridia and the Spider-cult as well.

Not really. See above; many disappearances were due to the spider-cults, but some were due to Myrkridian-ghost attacks. And that's all there is.

: The connection between Damas, the Myrkridia, the
: Spider-cult, the Smiths of Muirthmne and the Tain are
: all evident, but trying to understand the true
: associatin between them is very difficult. So if you
: have any ideas or theories that can be drawn from
: evidence, please let me know.

Here's my story:
The Smiths of Muirthemne were Dwarves who worshipped the gods of the giant spiders who lived deep in the hills around their homeland. They had Tain-like technology used to reach their spider-gods; by sacraficing a person to one of these shrines, they allowed a new Queen to come into the world. When the Smiths built the Tain for Connacht, they also built shrines to the spider-gods in there, so that the Myrkridia who approached those shrines would be sacraficed to the spider-gods. This is how all the spiders got inside the Tain. When Connacht went to assail their worldly shrines, they fled with their followers into the Tain, after arranging for barbarians to come and steal it. When the barbarians brought it back to the Untamed Lands, the Smiths used their secret exit to escape back into the real world.

Any connection with Damas is very weak.
