In Response To: Re: Myth TFL, Myth II, Myth III Errata! (Ghôlsbane)

: The way in which new info is revealed in Myth 2 (mainly
: through the epilogue) is in such a way that only
: snippets are given and we are still left guessing.

: "A thousand years later, he was drawn and
: quartered on the plains before Ileum."

: This Leveller is not named, we don't know where Ileum is,
: we don't know who defeated him.

: Compare this with Myth III's epilogue in which Mjarin is
: identified as the Head, Moagim is shown to have
: suffered the Kor punishment, Myrdred's Deceiver title
: is explained, the Watcher's arm at Silvermines problem
: is solved, Muirthemne's name change is explained,
: Zerks in the Mausoleum of Clovis are justified and the
: Stair of Grief's name is explained.

: Despite their attempt to create some mystery: "No
: one can recall the fate of Mjarin's living head"

: nothing is left to speculate on here.

: No uncertainty in Myth 2?: "But, we cannot be
: sure, at least, not for another 940 years."

: How so, when Connacht awakes, he has complete knowledge
: of the cycle and his own fate.

: Hmm, maybe... I can only think of the Sileh'hei as
: completely original ideas though.

: It was hyped among Mythers who caught glimpses of
: screenshots and heard promises from MJ saying this
: game would kick the pants off Myth 2 and I swallowed
: them up, right until the day I opened my box and
: started to play.

: I'm enjoying this debate.

:-) I agree on pretty much every point here. The only difference I have in my point of view is that I read the story first (thx b.org)--then started playing the game.

Let me restate GB's presentation in an easier to digest pill. Myth 3 does a good job of answering a lot of questions from the previous two games. Some of them are wrong (Myrdred's new name was pointed out), and some of them are interesting, and still more are pretty much what we expected. With so many answers and so few questions, Myth 3 seems like the conclusion to the series (which Almindor pointed out). The problem comes in when we realize two things:

1.) Myth 3 is a prequel pretending to be a sequel. Sequels explain things that happened in the previous game. Prequels *should* explain things that happened prior to the current games. Myth 3 is set before Myth 1, but tells a story as if it were set after Myth 2.

2.) Myth 3 left few (if any) open-ended background stories. The nature of sequels is to build upon an established story. Myth 2 left open as many doors as it closed. Myth 3, on the other hand, slammed nearly every door shut. What's left to answer if Myth 3 is canon?
