Er, not quite. Mazzarin was the most powerfull sorceror in "the four eras" (which four eras we don't know), but he died in the Wind Age, which was the first half of the 6th era.

The Great War overlapped the end of the 6th and the beginning of the 7th. Mazzarin died somewhere between 500 and 1000 years before the 7th began. So, I think the timeline went something like this (with dates relative to the War in the West):
Connacht kills Moagim.
The Watcher discovers the Dream of Unlife.
The Watcher kills Mazzarin.
Connacht imprisons The Watcher.
