Good catch. Yeah, they were supposed to have been transformed while still alive. On the other hand, they're definitely classified as undead (I haven't played Myth 1 in a while, but doesn't healing kill them?) How do we reconcile these two facts?
Suppose they were "put to sleep" through some kind of process that shut down their cellular functions without severely damaging their bodies--a dose of cyanide or something--and the dream of unlife (nanotech in my theory) was introduced into their systems immediately? Then you could say they never really died, or at least that they didn't spend any time dead--they went straight from life to undeath. And because their brains didn't have a chance to rot, their original minds would be intact. (Although a mind that tells you to ally yourself with the Fallen probably isn't worth much in the first place.) Is this a stretch?
