We don't know how big the Legion was when it entered Forest Heart, so let's asume it was roughly full strength (4800 men or so)

By the time we reach Balor's fortress...

We have 2300 men.

I think that although the journal writer didn't comment on it, the Legion most certainly suffered from such losses.
