Not a trap, he ordered Dam to NEVER tell him where the Tain, etc. were hidden. Don't think he'd trust it's knowledge...so, either:
(a) Connacht ordered it buried there for safe keeping;;
(b) It was buried there without Connacht's knowledge, as the buriers thought it'd be the safest place (but obviously told nobody in case someone would then try to find it);
(c) It was unearthed by (maybe evil) people (evil would be drawn to it (or mages), see Tain quotes in TFL and SB) and persuaded them to dump it in Muirthemne at some point (possibly before Balor destroyed Muirthemne?).
