I'd say it was a channeler. Focusing power and making himself more powerful, when he lost it he only had enough power to keep himself alive, but not enough to heal himself and free himself. Perhaps it Sorangath's skull. (For the anti myth IIIers in the Myth II epilouge it still says he was decapitated)
