Why did he do it? Out of gratitude. He buried the Northmen in the Mausoleum of Clovis because they sacrificed themselves to stop Moagim. He renamed the Nornpass the Stair of Grief because it was there that the Emperor Leitrim was killed by Moagim after having been betrayed by Mjarin.
And so he renamed Llancarfan Muirthmne because the SMiths sacrificed all their number in retieving the Tain and Sunhammer, and imprisoning the Spider Cult and their Goddess, Skyrosh, inside the Tain, and keeping them locked in there.
