Alric doesn't sound as if he liked Sinis before he was killed, just check out the tone of their dialogue. Which might mean that Sinis was a Dark mage when the Shade Mazzarin collapsed the remains of the shrine of Nyx on his head while Alric watched.
As for the question: "why would a shade kill a Dark mage? Aren't they both evil?" I have a few responses. First, perhaps Sinis was a freelance sorcerer who opposed both the Fallen and the Light. Which would mean Mazz collapsed the Shrine to kill him, and allow his body to be taken and made into a Shade. Second, it might be possible that Sinis was in the service of an opposing Fallen Lord. Mazz killed him and took his body to be shadified out of spite for this other Fallen. And we all know how the Fallen openly tried to kill each other on more than one occasion. Surely their agents would try to do the same to each other.
