Just checked my dictionary, Myrmidon means "follwer" or "Lcakey", no metion of slave, though it's obvious how one meaning can turn into the other.
Strangely, it derives from Achilles' race, as they followed Menaleaus to Troy. But so did loads of Greeks. The English scholars who came up with that connotation were idiots - but most languistic scholars are half-mad in my experience, anyway.
