: That brings up a question, are the Myth archers (Either I
: or II, or even III) using true longbows or normal
: bows?

They're definitely not longbows. Longbows tend to be about six feet from tip to tip, "taller than a man", though they were a little shorter in older times. The yellow yews that the fir'Bolg use are clearly recurve bows, which, aye, are far better for the conditions of a forest. Longbows would be almost totally useless in a place like Sherwood (sorry, Robin Hood), at least for an entire culture of bowmen, as the longbow was best for extremely long-distance targetting (which would fly above the treeline).

The Bowmen of Myth II...heh, despite how unfortunately short their puny arms draw their strings (or how limp the catgut is), they're still recurve bows, just the same as the Archers of Myth I, as the ends of the bow "curve again" so the they point forward (which makes it harder to pull back, meaning that more energy is applied, which gives it a bigger "punch" at shorter distance, but less accuracy over an entire battlefield, as with a longbow). A longbow, conversely, is a perfect parabolic arch, like shortbows.

Ah...but the Archers of Myth III...heh, they're not really anything. Half of them do the recurve thing, but then the other half for some godforsaken reason are longbow-ish without this all-important characteristic. But they're far from longbows; a longbow must almost always be taller than the archer. So, whatever the heck the Cath Bruig Archers have are...nothing I would touch.
I cannot fathom that a military would be so idiotic, or had lost so many intelligent offiicers and craftsmen, that it would produce bows that were completely different in construction for half the archers, especially ones that were so crappy (not to mention arrows five feet long).

None of these things make for very good offensive archer lines, as in Braveheart or otherwise. *lol* Can you imagine it? A thousand Cath Bruig Archers in a long line at the fore of a battle-ready army draw their bows... A third of them die from friendly fire after the first loose. The initial volley flies out in such a disparate and unfocused way, not one undead is even stricken by the haphazard spray that goes everywhere but forward...until the second shot. Only one half the auxilliaries left, the army's not looking good. Resolving that the Emperor is a complete idiot, an Archer draws his arrow, taller than he, and uses it to great effect as a spear, before getting cut down in the mκlιe...

We wonder why the Light tends to suck so very badly.
