On the subject of Celts being invaded.

Wales is technically Celtic.
In just about every major battle(upon until people stopped using bows of course, and it might have mostly ended after the hundred years war) after Edward I "Longshanks"
took over Wales, English kings used -Welch- archers, equiped with longbows.

I wonder why the Welsh were willing to serve so eagerly (More or less) and more or less loyally?
Were they mercenaries?
