: Hmmm... this is my theory.
: Mahir, Fetch, and the Spider Gods are all of the same
: world. Over thousands and thousands of years, each
: evolved ways of countering others, for example, the
: Mahir (who btw are not solid forms, like Fetch, but
: prehaps being shadow creatures Wyrd cannot detect
: them) are imune to the Fetch lightning. On the other
: hand, Fetch's are great for blasting spids.
I tend to think the Mahir are from the "ordinary" Myth world, because their names are known to us and also refer to elements of the ordinary world, such as graves and the moon. My personal feeling is that they are direct products of the Mythworld Wrkncacnter (not responsible for spelling), cousins of Earth's Phantasms from PID.
: Now Spiders are to Spider Gods as Mahir are to those
: Deamon guys. Prehaps the Fetches were enslaved by the
: Mahir race (who they are powerless against) and hence
: the Deamon granted Krylla fetches (also the Fetches
: are forced to act as Priestesses for the Deamon's).
: Did you notice all the spiders in "The
: Fiend"? ooo and they also attack the Deamon's
: forces, I think these are kind of spies or assassins
: to keep an eye on him, or mb find a way to kill him.
You think the Mahir enslave other beings? They don't really seem to have much in the way of a civilization or community; as far as I can see, their only purpose in life is killing anyone they happen to meet. I'm leery of using Chimera as evidence for my theories, since the makers didn't seem very interested in expanding on extant Myth storylines. And from Cartucke's flavor text it appears that he was from somewhere out in space or the void or something, not from the spider-world. Not that this is conclusive.
: This also explains why Fetches are commonly chosen to go
: into the Tain, they are right at home there...
One physics point--to shoot their electricity, the Fetch probably need to accumulate a charge within their bodies. They may be more comfortable within the Tain simply because, in its dry and motionless air, charge dissipates less quickly. This doesn't invalidate other reasons (like their coming from the spider-world), of course.
