: The killing of three thousand and eighteen people was
: wrong.

Yes, it was, just as would be the potential death of every American citizen, something the Islamists (as in, those who believe Islam should triumph over and destroy all other faiths, by any means) are trying to do to every single one of us Americans at this very moment.

: The killing of thousands of Afghan civilians as a result
: was wrong.

Thousands of Afghan civilians? This statistic is not accurate, my friend. The real number is one hundred and twenty, and those are dead or injured...compared to what happened to the German cities in World War II?? Please...awful as it is, they were not targetted specifically, and making complete even-handedness of treatment with the United States and al-Qaeda, that is wrong.

But are you indeed making moral equivalence with American soldiers who shoot Taliban as being as bad as the terrorists who flew those planes into the World Trade Center?
Let’s assume you’re right; the Afghans have their opinions and religious beliefs, and we should respect them, not invade them or make them change their ways. We should let them have their world and ourselves have ours. ...for the cause of the Taliban and the Iraqis is the same as ours...right? They are fighting and defending their Allah-given rights: the right to beat their women when they misbehave; the right to stone them if their burkhas aren’t being worn in the “sacred” fashion; the right to shoot them in the head if they dare to speak out of place; the duty to kill all the infidels; the right to prevent women from getting an education, or learn to read, or understand anything beyond pleasing their husbands; the right to mutilate or even literally crucify any who attempt to speak freely, or even mention the possibility of knowledge beyond that disseminated by the Fundamentalist regimes; the duty to beat into submission any woman who does not wear her vale, right there in the streets, or have her be publicly tortured if she does anything but praise the Father Allah and His “justice”.

Personally, I do not see the rationale.

: The killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese
: in Hiroshima and Nagasaki is wrong.

Now I’m starting to wonder what you really mean by "wrong". What was wrong was the Japanese Empire forcing the United States into a war it did not want to come into by attacking it unprovokèdly at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. This act caused a hundred thousand casualties on both sides, the Pacific red with blood, not one drop of it on American hands.
The Japanese had to be stopped, immediately, or they would not be as merciful as we when they invaded the United States. Indeed, America did not choose to start a war for the purpose of conquering another country, as the Japanese Empire had. Nor did we have any resolve but to cripple the war machine of the island nation, which was done.
And President Truman was faced with this decision: unleash the hellish power of the most destructive devices ever known, killing two hundred thousand people and instantly ending the War of the Pacific; or, invade Japan, in a long, gruesome, agonizingly drawn out land war which would have a death toll of millions of people, as every single Japanese person (and in a totalitarian regime such as that Empire of fanatics, there virtually are no civilians, as everyone is forced or willingly complies to serve the belligerence of the government) would have fought to the bloody death. Truman made the most ethical decision he could, and saved more lives by killing some. It’s the most horrible rationalization anyone would have to face, and he did it, and took the just end, rather than let millions die.

As for “wrong”, I assume you mean morally; in that case, one can see rationally how it was not wrong for those dreadful bombs to be dropped.

: Let us not be blinded by
: fear, hate or vengence, let us Live and let Live. And
: Let it be....

These are powerful words, old friend, and I can greatly appreciate the twain Paul McCartney reference; however, as much as we would desire to let things lie and not have to kill a single human being, those terrorists, who right now are trying to kill you, you, zeph, a citizen of the United States, just by that virtue alone, those terrorists do not have any such notion of mercy, justice, compassion, temperance, humanity, or morality. Our military actions are to protect this country, and not see it fall to the leveling of war, just as happened to Europe almost completely in World War II, just as happened to Muirthemne at the hands of Balor the Leveler when he destroyed and mercilessly slaughtered every single one of those subjects of the Cath Bruig Empire, merely because they were Cath Bruig.

What is wrong is when a group of people starts a war against another, forcing the dilemma without alternative of letting some die, or letting many die.
