Where in Myth does it say the dwarves live in caves? And don't tell me Gurps. All the evidence in the game points toward the dwaves living in cities like everyone else. Otherwise what would they have a barbican for? I think you guys are mixing Tolkien and Norse Myth up with what Bungie actually wrote.
You're using circular reasoning zeph. "Dwarves live in caves, so they must have designed the tower to protect the caves. The tower was destroyed trapping the dwarves in caves, so they must normally live in caves." That's not logic, that's propaganda. :)
I just looked through the encyclopedia and see nothing that points to cave-dwelling dwarves. I won't discount the possibility that somewhere in Bungie's notes there's a line that reads "dwarves live in caves". They didn't provide me with a copy though, so I have only the games to go by. It also helps that I knew what a barbican was before I began imagining the two dwarven cities. :) After all, you don't lose 10,000 people guarding a cave entrance. You lose 10,000 people guarding a mountain pass that leads into a mountain city. It just makes sense. :/
