For those of you that think the dwarves *all* died when they "collapsed the barbican" at Stoneheim, you should learn what a barbican *is* first. A convenient link is placed below.
Stoneheim was beseiged by the ghols. The dwarves were at the walls and gates, doing their best to fend off the attackers. When hope seemed lost, they did what they had to do: blew the gates. The stonework collapsed, sealing off the city. Many of the dwarves were killed, but they took just as many ghols with them, and saved the rest of the populace. A bittersweet victory, to be sure.
