Do the Heron Guards get chosen solely for strength and courage, or are wisdom and other such virtues important too?

GURPS info, or personal opinions both wanted...

Also, based on the defination of Avatara that Forrest and some others, myself not including, are using, I have a question.

If an Avatara is not a general name for a Light Archmage, does that mean that you have to be an Archmage, then if you are really good (Both ways) you can become an Avatara or what?

Again, GURPS info or personal opinions wanted.
